Second of june sounds good, hopefully I can get a southerly there and westerly or nor-easter back :)
But it depends on weather as i dont really want to bash back to sydney in a southerly, but we will know closer to the date, but all sounds good.

Gday Aaron,
Start scoping out places to leave your boat if the weather isnt good for the return trip!, for a couple of hundred $$, you could find a commercial mooring (or someone may have a mooring you can use??), then in the mean-time explore around the hawkesbury whenever you get a chance, before sailing back.
(there is some info on this website about leaving the boat in Pittwater, in the forum somewhere)

Hi Aaron,

The Trip back against a southerly can be pretty horrible, but you are much more likely to have a NE breeze and a slowish trip up (took me 9 hours last year in a piping NNW).

If the weather turns unexpectedly and you have to leave your boat for the week there is a spare mooring next to Storm Petrel at Pretty Beach (ferry to Palm Beach from Wagstaff and 190 bus to the city) or I have a mate with a mooring at Bennetts wharf at the entrance to the Basin (ferry from Bennets wharf to Palm Beach and bus to the city). Both safe and free. Of course if you don't have to go back to work and can spend a few days exploring Broken Bay, there would be worse places to wait out the weather.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks guys, yes I might take up that offer when the time is closer, I wish that the boat could stay up there, sydney is horrible when your battling 50 foot stink boats that make a tsumni. :x

Can whatever we do not be called a race please as it buggers up insurance.
Apparently if there is no offical start line and no official finish line then it is not a race and no additional insurance is required.

Sounds good to me.

No races. We are just criusing to the basin for a get together. How about we meet from mid-day? Some locals might just stay for the afternoon while the 'out of towners' may wish to stay overnight. You could of course, 'cruise in company' up from Sydney with Aaron and some of the other Sydney Hatters Diana if you wanted to share the fun.

Look forward to catching up with everyone on the 2nd June.

I'm looking forward to it too Mark, but last time there was a gathering in the Basin you buggered off early to get the tide back into Brisbane Water.... have you checked the tides?

I also have a dilemma. Some mates are doing a surf trip to Point Plomer (south of Crescent) for the same weekend..... what to do!

My guess is, it will be the Basin.... :D

Yes a difficult choice. I have had some good waves at Pt Plomer over the years, but it is often a soft mal wave with a pack of old duffers(like me) on it. With any luck it will be flat and/or onshore so you will not feel bad about going sailing instead. You can always go for a wave before you sail to the Basin (I will be).

The tides are big that weekend but should be running in at half tide rocks from about 3pm till 9.00pm so it should work pretty well. I could also stay the night and go early in the morning, though this may be difficult because I am going to Hawaii for a few weeks on that Monday and might have a bit of last minute organizing to do.

As I am sailing up to The Hawkesbury this weekend.... finally.. Fingers crossed.
So I will be there with bells on for the June long weekend.

Looking forward to it.
My first get together on Sea Lady rather than someone elses boat.

Mark, What moorings can a visiting boat pick up for the night? Looks like Phillip and I will be coming down earlier than the 2nd
I see that from the waterways map that you can't anchor at the Basin any more. How do you intend that we get all the boats together?
Any other plans so far?
